The Wheat Berry Minestrone Facebook Reunion Soup

OMG minestrone and wheat berries!! OMG!!!

I love stories like this – long lost friends who reunite on Facebook. My friend, Marsha Minestrone was procrastinating at work by searching for old high school friends on Facebook. She searched under “Farmers Market High, Class of 1992″ and also under the school mascot, the Mighty Anti-oxident. She stumbled upon Wesley Wheatberry – and boy did he look good. His wheatfro, acne, and braces, had been replaced by fiber, protein, and iron. She loved his “about me” section, which read “when cooked I release an almost nutty flavor. I’m hearty and sort-of crunchy, an all around great whole grain.” So witty! She poked him and wrote him a note, and he immediately wrote back. “Marsha, OMG!! Gr8t 2 hear from u! Look at you with your carrots, spinach, rosemary, chick peas, and sage. You are so hearty! So warm! So flavorful! Gr8t!!” They scheduled a drink the very next night. And you guessed it – minestrone and wheat berries do indeed make a fantastic combination. Thank goodness for Facebook. OMG!! TTYL!!

First soup I’ve ordered and it was great! The spinach was little wan, as greens tend to get when allowed to soak in soup for extended times. But it was a hearty, deliciously flavorful soup and I would definitely order it again.

Love those nutty wheatberries! You must use these berries again and again and again…

  • Johanna says:

Agree — the wheat berries are an underappreciated ingredient…texture is fabulous and they are great for you….please find other soups to throw them in!

Our first soup–pretty good, but not quite as flavorful as I’d hope. A little overwhelmed by the quantity of wheatberries I think.

    Hi Soupergirl!

I order your soups A LOT, and they are always delicious and so so unique, but sometimes, they are pushing the envelope of my palate such that I can only have small quantities before “needing a breather.”

This minestrone was such a great combo of flavors and veggies like always, but it was so good and still just enough within my comfort zone to keep me munching and munching! Wow. Really great. Don’t change a thing.

Love the wheatberries too. They were filling and perfect w/ the texture of the other vegetables.

I visited Soupergirl for the first time on yesterday. I guess I may have looked like a deer caught in headlights when I entered, because a very friendly staff member came over and assisted me right away. He was so nice and explained everything to me thoroughly. So I purchased a pint of the Minestrone and OMG it was very, very, very good! So good that I told all my followers on Twitter, Facebook, and my family. I will definitely be coming back for another visit real soon. Excellent customer service and excellent soup!

    5 Spoons!
I’m getting repetitive: This is my favorite soup yet! Great flavor & texture. I LOVE the wheat berries. Plenty of garlic! I added some parmesan cheese. Big mistake to only order a pint.

Wow – I thought I made good soups but these are even better than mine! This was my first visit to SouperG. I love that you get to taste but it made it really hard to choose because they were all “souperb”.
This Minestrone is so flavorful and delicious and satisfying. Full of quality ingredients, cooked long enough to become full flavored in a complex way but not over-cooked. And a brilliant use of wheat berries. I want to tell everyone I know to have some soup at SouperGirl!

I have never been a fan of minestrone, but now I am a convert. This is the best minestrone I’ve ever tasted. Perfect! I never dreamed I would gobble up such a healthy blend of ingredients. Love it!
