The New Identity Black Bean and Pumpkin Soup

Pumpkins and black beans and spices, oh my!

pumpkinI was walking through a pumpkin patch the other day when I heard someone call out my name in a very rough voice. “Hey! Hey Soupergirl. Is that you?” I looked down and saw a talking pumpkin waving me over. Well, he didn’t have any hands, so it was more of a swaying motion. Whatever. “Listen, I’ve heard about you. I want you to make me into a soup. Any minute now some kid is going to come over here and carve some crooked face or a picture of a cat into me, and I don’t want to be that. I want to be a soup. And not just some pureed soup either. What, you don’t think we are good enough for your chunky soups? Is that what you think? Are you an anti-pumpkinite?” Well, I certainly don’t want to be accused of being an anti-pumpkinite! So I replied, “Fine. You think you’re ready for the big time? You got it, you rude, rude pumpkin. I’m going to to turn you into a chunky soup. I’m going to mix you in with black beans! Yeah, that’s right, tough guy! And then I’m going to enhance your sweetness by roasting you! And by mixing in some fabulous autumn spices, like ginger and cinnamon! What do you think of that?” “Perfect,” he replied. “Let’s get out of here and get to business!” Little secret – after I roasted him, I pureed him! Don’t tell him!! I’m not an anti-pumpkinite!! I just preferred pumpkins pureed. It was how I was raised. It’s not my fault!!

I had this soup tonight and gobbled it up in minutes. I put the other soup I ordered in the freezer for another time, but I wish I had ordered the quart size! It was sooo tasty and felt healthy, too!

I love black bean soup. I especially have liked all your black bean soups to date, I think, particularly the one with lime in it. However, I think you might have surpassed yourself with this latest concoction by the addition of pureed pumpkins! This was soooooooo good, nice and hearty! Keep those soups coming! (And you do have quite a repertoire of them already! I remember when I first looked at your site, way back in the beginning. I counted the number of soups – maybe 15 then? Wow-how many now? I haven’t gone back to check recently, but I bet they have tripled at least!) Thanks for making Wednesdays a day I really look forward to !

I am SOOOO glad that I ordered a quart of this soup. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!! Will definitely order again when it is offered. Thank you Soupergirl and Soupermom!! PS: Still looking forward to the West African Safari Stew.

I’m a little surprised by the reactions I’m reading because, as an avid black bean and pumpkin consumer, i was really disappointed by this soup. Perhaps actually blending all ingredients instead of just half (i think?) would’ve brought this soup to funky town. I ended up mixing it with my latest crockpot creation, which was a good use (mine was a bit too tomato-centric, needed dem beans.)
