We all know about the European Renaissance which bridged theMiddle Ages and the Modern Era. Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo are just two of the well known artists from that period. However, history does not give enough attention to the Golden Age of Soup, which took place in the mid 16th century. Sir Zest von Seasonburg was credited as being the father of modern soup, and this recipe was his masterpiece. He declared that soup could and should be more than white potatoes in water with a drizzle of grass (the soup norm of the day). He put all of his favorite foods and spices together in one pot – pureed baked sweet potatoes, curry, quinoa, maple syrup, ginger, and orange juice. He let them all melt together to create an incredible taste and texture combination. This soup was hearty, sweet, and healthful. The addition of quinoa caused rioting in all the small towns of France. The good kind of riots – not that bad kind. People were running through the streets, knocking on the doors of their neighbors offering samples of the soup. Unfortunately, after Sir Seasonburg’s death, his recipes were greatly misunderstood. This confusion led to the King of France to ban quinoa-based soup for years. All of this changed with the Great Soup Revolt of 1714, lead by Sir Seasonburg’s great grand son, Marty. That’s a story for another time.

This soup is by far the best soup I’ve evr had from Soupergirl. The quinoa is the perfect addition, and the sweetness was just right. I highly recommend this soup!!!
The perfect ending to a stressful day!! I am not a fan of quinoa unless it isn’t especially evident. This soup uses it as a base, and the texture is awesome, the flavors very special. I added a pinch of salt which brought out the flavors even more, Yummm, and I am not even vegan!!! Just a foodie and souper lover.
I love this soup! It’s flavorful without being too sweet, and I love the combination of sweet potatoes, orange, and the curry/ginger spice blend. It’s a much beloved soup in my household.
My husband and I loved this soup. It had a hint of orange and maple syrup but not too much. The curry tempered the sweetness nicely. The sweet potatoes added a richness that is yummy!
Thanks!
Last night I saw your store advertised on WETA. It was late so I could not get to the store to try the soups. This soup was so delicious. I was not sure if I would like the taste of sweet potatoes in soup. I was pleasantly surprised. The soup was rich and flavorful. I will return for more.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this hearty tasty soup. It’s like a meal, with the perfect amount of rich yet comforting flavors. Who knew quinoa, curry, orange zest ginger and carrots (flavors that stood out the most to me) could make such a lovely combination? I started and could not stop. And I felt healthy after finishing. Not full and bloated like there was too much salt.
This soup is approved by my 5 month old
I just can’t get into the orange juice/orange zest. The citrus flavor sticks out to me and seems just a liiiiittle too much. However the consistency and vegetables and the rest of the flavors are so tasty, and it pairs well with some delicious Soupergirl croutons.
Ate this soup for lunch yesterday and took a quart home to share with my husband and son for dinner. It is DIVINE!! I’ll be back to try others.
