Soups for week of February 13 (Order window will open soon):

Chunky Soup: Writer’s Block Mushroom Barley Soup

Ingredients (in no particular order):  barley, mushroom, cabbage, paprika, thyme, sherry, parsley, lemon juice, garlic, onion, olive oil, salt, pepper, homemade vegetable stock

OK, I have to write something  about this soup. Argh! Writer’s block! Let me have a spoonful and see if I get some inspiration. OH MY GOSH, that soup is good. What is that little extra something? Did Soupermom put cabbage in here?? So sweet and subtle. Is that papirka? Oh Soupermom,  you’ve done it again. I literally feel my belly warming up. OK, stop it Soupergirl, you’ve got to focus. Write, darn it! Hey, maybe I should clean my bathroom. Great idea!…Maybe I should call my cousin in Baltimore and tell her about this soup. She should really love this soup. But we really email more than talk on the phone. That would be weird. Plus, how would she get the soup? But she should know about this crazy delicious mushroom barley soup that Soupermom made. Does she call my mom Aunt Soupermom? That’s funny. OK, an hour has gone by and you haven’t written a thing. Great. Maybe I’ll have some more soup. WOW, that’s good – people need to know about this!! I’ll try writing again tomorrow.

Pureed Soup: King Midas’ Golden Split Pea Soup

Ingredients (in no particular order): yellow split peas, turmeric, coriander, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, apple, sweet potato, tomato, chili powder, lime juice, gluten free tamari soy sauce, onion, canola oil, salt, pepper, homemade vegetable stock

Long ago, in a little village in Maryland, lived a benevolent king named Midas. Have you heard about him? Everything he touched turned to golden split pea soup. Oh, how the villagers liked him. When their pantries where empty in the winter, we would visit their homes and touch whatever they wanted, and poof! Full kettles of gorgeous, warm, thick, soul warming golden split pea soup. There was a bit of tension because the villagers couldn’t decide what they loved best about the soup. Some loved the creamy, split pea flavor. Others were crazy about the root vegetables and apples that made the soup so unique. One group started a Facebook fan page for the spice combination of coriander, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, and cumin. There was almost a riot one time. The King had to threaten to stop turning things into soup to get them to stop. The Facebook page was quickly taken down and the villagers decided to throw a golden split pea party instead. They served borscht. The end.
