This is one of the first soups I ever made! I’ll never forget it – it was the morning of my fifth birthday. I woke my parents up at 5 AM, begging for my presents. I could barely control my excitement when they handed me my gift. I tore through the wrapping, and there it was! Just what I wanted! A ten pound bag of green split peas!! Oh, what a lucky girl was I!! Of course, there was another little package with some paprika, bay leaves, garlic, and rosemary. I went right to work! I broke out my “Fisher Price Junior 10 Quart Stock Pot, my “Little Cook’s Knife Set,” and, of course, my “Lil’ Immersion Blender.” An hour later, a perfect soup was born! The split peas made it so creamy and smooth! I remember commenting to my mother that the paprika gave the soup such a nice color! And the rosemary – subtle and woodsy. Then I sat down and watched 3-2-1 Contact. What a perfect birthday!
