Some describe this soup as luxurious. So perhaps you should think of this soup as a diamond bracelet from Tiffany’s that you could eat – if diamonds were edible and tasted like sweet potatoes. The natural flavor of the local sweet potatoes jumps out of the bowl as you heat it up. The ginger provides a little kick – kind of like someone gently pinching your tush at a bar. But you won’t want to slap it or sue it. Please don’t sue the soup. This is also one of those soups that causes you to say – really? No cream? Really? Are you lying Soupergirl?? And don’t worry, Soupergirl is like George Washington – I cannot tell a lie except when referring to my weight on my drivers license.

Rockin’ Around the Gingered Sweet Potato Tree
The Tale of the Caramelized Carrot Parsnip Soup
Once upon a time, in a far away place called Soupervillage, there lived two rival families – the Carrots and the Parsnips. One day, while frolicking by the Soupercreek, beautiful young carrot daughter and handsome young parsnip son met and it was love at first site. Knowing their families would never approve, they immediately decided that they would run away together and caramelize! They would start their own village and welcome everyone into their new lives – shallots, maple syrup, brown sugar, freshly squeezed organic orange juice, thyme, garlic – everyone!! No judgments. No rules. They would live together in a harmonious, delicious, smooth and heart warming soup pot. Their lives would be delicate and sweet, subtle and warm. And that is just what they did. This soup is dedicated to them – beautiful young carrot daughter and handsome young parsnip son – who dared to let love conquer all.
Sammy the Nutty Sweet Potato Soup
Soupermom and Souperdad tried to teach me about seasonal foods at a very young age. So my first “teddy bear” was Sammy the Sweet Potato – he arrived in November. In May, I went to sleep every night with Bobby Broccoli. In the summer – Timmy Tomato. So imagine the trauma when I saw mom pureeing Sammy to make soup! I ran crying to Souperdad! He scooped me up and explained some very important things. While sweet potatoes make wonderful friends, they are also loaded with carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. And Soupermom was pureeing Sammy along with some homemade peanut butter and a touch of Harissa, to give the soup protein and a little kick! Sammy was going to make one heck of a creamy, delicious, thick pureed soup! I was skeptical, but I listened. When Soupermom gave me a taste of the soup, I was blown away. I demanded that Soupermom start pureeing all of my “friends.” That was the day my parents stopped naming produce and bought me my first teddy bear.
