Loyal Soup Eaters of Washington, I dedicate this soup to you. As we take the fresh, sweet, local carrots and puree them with our homemade peanut butter, we think of you, fellow Snowmaggedon survivors. As we puree it up with a pinch of chili and freshly squeezed lime juice, we have you, fellow Washingtonians, in our minds. But most of all, we dedicate this peanut-buttery, sweet, slightly spicy, creamy, and deliciously smooth soup to you, Bob Ryan, Doug Hill, Sue Palka, and the other brave meteorologists. No matter what time we turned on our TV’s – 3:00 AM, 7:30 PM, noon – there you were. In front of your Doppler-5000 Weathertron-Atari-Nintendo-Radar-Systematic-Thingies – telling us how much snow was coming. Keeping us calm, yet prepared. Fearful, yet knowledgeable of the amount of milk, eggs, and bread we should buy. We don’t know when you bathe, sleep, or eat, and frankly, we don’t care. Just keep those forecasts coming. This soup’s for you.

Snowmaggedon Spicy Carrot Peanut Soup
The i-French Lentil Stew with Roasted Veggies
Soupies all over the world were waiting with baited breath for Apple’s release of the i-French Lentil Stew with Roasted Veggies (nicknamed the i-Stew). Oh, the capabilities!! The earthy French lentils complement the slow roasted carrots perfectly. The mint and the chilis add subtle background flavors. It is hearty, healthy, and delicious. Some critics think it is too similar to Apple’s i-Soup. They are wrong. Not only can you eat the i-Stew, but if stirred properly, you can read a book while heating it. That was not an option with the i-Soup. You can also check your e-mail while packaging the extra soup in your tupperware to bring to work for lunch. A note of caution – if you try plugging your i-Pod into the i-Stew, it will break because at the end of the day, the i-Stew is a stew. In short, there was life before the i-Stew, and after the i-Stew. The i-Stew rocks and I must have it now.
My Very First Split Pea and Rosemary Puree Soup
This is one of the first soups I ever made! I’ll never forget it – it was the morning of my fifth birthday. I woke my parents up at 5 AM begging for my presents. I could barely control my excitement when they handed me my gift. I tore through the wrapping, and there it was! Just what I wanted! A ten pound bag of organic green split peas!! Oh what a lucky girl was I!! Of course, there was another little package with some paprika, bay leaves, garlic, and rosemary. I went right to work! I broke out my “Fisher Price Junior 10 Quart Stock Pot, my “Little Cook’s Knife Set,” and, of course, my “Lil’ Immersion Blender.” An hour later, a perfect winter soup was born! The split peas made it so creamy and smooth! I remember commenting to my mother that the paprika gave the soup such a nice color! And the rosemary – subtle and woodsy. Then I sat down and watched 3-2-1 Contact. What a perfect birthday!
