This soup was inspired by my recent safari trip in Africa. It was wild! We got up really, really early one morning to see the little baby sweet potatoes playing by the river. It got a little scary when a pack of wild tomatoes came upon them. Luckily, the tomatoes were just there for some water. A few hours later a hummus of chickpeas (hummus is the word for a pack of chickpeas – like a “herd of cows..”), surrounded our jeep. I was SO SCARED! But our driver remained calm and said that chickpeas are really friendly on account of their high protein content. Phew! The day ended at a peanut farm where I got to pet and feed little orphaned peanuts. It was amazing. I got some great pictures – I’ll post them on Snapfish next week.

General Tsee’s Gingered Carrot Orange Soup
Little known fact – General Tsao (of chicken fame) had a little brother, General Tsee. Tsee definitely had a complex because his big brother’s chicken recipe was so famous. One day, Tsee was walking in a carrot patch, eating an orange, when he tripped and fell. Covered in orange juice and carrot, he licked his lips and said “THIS IS IT!! THIS SHALL BE MY LEGACY!!” He ran home and added some ginger and curry, as Tsee loved a little kick in his soup! He then pureed it all together to blend the flavors perfectly. Oh, Tsee was so happy!! Unfortunately, big brother Tsao got wind of what was going on and challenged Tsee to a duel! “Whoever wins this duel shall be remembered for his recipe for generations to come!!” Tsee’s strong point was miniature golf, not sword fighting – hence General Tsao’s Chicken at Chinese restaurants across the world. But don’t worry Tsee! I remember you!! Wherever you are, know this – I’ll always serve your soup, General Tsee! Your legacy is safe with Soupergirl!
Narcisstic Green Lentil Soup with Exotic Spices
This soup has the biggest ego. I’m honestly not sure why I still hang out with it. I mean, yes, it has fabulous exotic spices such as thyme, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. But really, how about a little humility. And it just loves to point out that it has French green lentils, rather than regular lentils. The French green lentils are smaller and hold their shape incredibly well, and blah, blah, blah – I just tune it out at that point. Anytime I try to change the subject, it’s like – oh don’t forget about my coconut milk – you’ve never had a soup like me. Last week, this soup was, as usual, bragging away. Finally I burst out and yelled “YOU ARE JUST SOUP!! JUST A SOUP!!” The soup was quiet for a second, and then it said – “exactly.”
