Kumbaya Winter Vegetable Soup
Normally, we here at Soupergirl offer one type of winter vegetable soup (sweet potato soup, squash soup, etc.). However, inspired by our new president, we are declaring WE ARE ONE. Yes we can bring together sweet potatoes, butternut squash, russet potatoes into one soup. Heck, we’ll even throw in some ginger to join the party. And nothing else. No fancy herbs or spices. Just the pure taste of these glorious winter vegetables pureed together into gentle smoothness. Before hopping in the pot, the vegetables join in sun salutations and chant together – ooommmmm. It is quite a site to see butternut squash and potatoes doing yoga. We’ll try to take a picture for you. Hope we remember our camera! Namastay.
Sigmund Romberg’s Chickpea Soup
Wondering who is Sigmund Romberg? My high school prom date? Nope! The first man to walk on the moon? Wrong again! Sigmund Romberg wrote the music for the Broadway show, Desert Song! Which, according to Soupermom (and Souperdad) is simply fabulous, and the inspiration for this soup. The chickpeas, exotic spices, and rice warm your belly and spirits as the rain, sleet, and freezing rain (ahhh DC winters) fall outside your window. Cuddle up with Sigmund Romberg and… I mean, Sigmumd Romberg’s soup and pop Desert Song into your DVD player. Oh what a perfect evening! If you do find yourself cuddling up with Sigmund himself, call me. He died in 1953, so that would be kind of weird. But don’t panic! He probably just wants some soup!
