Harira is the national soup of Morocco. Moroccans must be extremely patriotic to have a national soup. Kudos to them. And what an excellent choice! I have a hunch that every time they eat this soup they jump out of their chairs and sing the Moroccan national anthem, because this soup is simply divine. It is one of the heartiest soups we serve. The combination of chick peas, tomatoes, spices, and pasta will fill your tummy and warm your soul. It might cause you to hum the song “Marrakech Express.” Soupermom started dancing around the kitchen singing it after we named this soup. Soupermom does that sometimes, when inspired by really good soup. Maybe you should buy a copy on itunes so you can join Soupermom in her singing. Or, maybe just stick to ordering the soup.

Marrakech Express Harira
Heavenly Cinnamon Spice Pear and Parsnip
I recently gave some of this soup to my brother. He liked it so much he started to cry a little. I thought this was weird because he’s 34 years old and there are more important things to cry over than good soup. But his tears made a good point. This soup is quite simply divine. Heavenly, if you will. The local Asian pears and local parsnips dance together in the bowl like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in some 1940′s movie that you always see clips of on public television. The cinnamon and allspice are the ultimate winter flavors that make you want to dance around the Christmas tree, twirl a dreidel, or protest organized religion – whatever you choose. We puree it all up to silky smoothness. Don’t be embarrassed if you cry a little when you eat it. That precedent has already been set.
Party Starting Black Eyed Pea and Funky Greens
The Black Eyed Peas always eat this soup when they are on tour. That previous sentence was a total lie. But I think they should eat this soup because they would love it. Here’s the deal. My tough food critic friend Rivka (who writes the amazing food blog Not Derby Pie – check it out!) tasted this soup and told me she became immediately addicted to it. Try it for yourself and see if you too develop a bad habit. In this context bad = good. This soup has a wildly unique flavor. Check out the ingredient list! We’ve thrown together a crazy number of spices to give this soup an almost meaty flavor. Almost, I say, as you and I know the secret truth about Soupergirl soups (there’s no meat…ssshhh…don’t tell….). This soup is simply awesome – the kind of soup you want to take home and introduce to your mom. Oh, also it’s really healthy but I promise you won’t notice.
